Russian Artillery

Russia's army had a very powerful artillery component and its gunners were both brave and professional. Often they would stay at their guns firing into a closing enemy, rather than abandoning their weapons.

The mainstays of the Russian artillery were 6 and 12-pounders, although they developed their own style of howitzers that included 3, 10 and 20-pounder varieties.

These howitzers - unicornes or licornes - were not initially successful, but found, and held, their places in the Russian army.

Russian artillery carriages, wheels and limbers were painted light green and metal pieces were polished.
