Ibrahim Bey

Mameluke Bey
(1735-1817)

A European by birth, Ibrahim was stolen from what is now Czechoslovakia and sold into Muslim slavery.

His owner was the ruler of Egypt and through loyal service Ibrahim was freed and then given authority over Cairo.

Upon his mentor's death, he jointly ruled Egypt with Murad Bey.

Despite fighting well, his troops were beaten by Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of the Pyramids and later at Heliopolis.

His defeats effectively ended his rule, even after the French left Egypt, and after surviving the Turkish massacre of Mamelukes in 1811, disappeared from history.
