Prussia

Capital: Berlin
Population: 9 million
Government: Monarchy

Having come out of the Seven Years' War twice the size it was before Frederick the Great's military success, Prussia was the new major power in Europe.

It had a feared reputation as a fighting nation, although complacency had set into its army.

Despite being a member of the First Coalition, Prussia withdrew as an active opponent of the French Revolution until the Fourth Coalition in 1806.

The subsequent humiliation of military defeat and being forced to cede much of its territories fired the Prussian king, Frederick William III, into much-needed military reforms.

The new Prussian army that emerged became one of the finest in Europe and was one of the major forces to bring an end to Napoleon Bonaparte's rule.
