Revolutionary & Napoleonic Caricatures

Artists sometimes portrayed Napoleon Bonaparte as a crocodile, particularly after the Egyptian campaign. This work looks at Bonaparte's Coup of 18-19 Brumaire and how as the crocodile he deals with the Council of Ancients. The use of frogs suggests democracy in France has been exiled to far-flung swamps.
